Paul Whitehead BSc BChD Principal Dentist GDC No. 63629

I have always wanted to be a dentist and am a passionate advocate of preventive dentistry. I love to create healthy mouths and provide my patients with the skills to care for them on a daily basis. Healthy mouths are great! They are reliable and trouble-free and I believe that you shouldn’t need to think about your mouth during the day – it should just work, all the time, every time.
There are lots of wonderful advances in the rapidly changing world of dentistry and it’s great learning about them and incorporating them in my day-to-day work. The advances in techniques to improve people’s appearance have been dramatic and one of my greatest pleasures is the reaction people have to the new smile we have created for them.
I qualified from Leeds University in 1988. I am a member of the British Dental Association and after working at practices in Leeds and Bradford, I bought the Knaresborough practice with Rosanna in 1997. Outside of work I like to keep busy and enjoy spending time with my partner and children. I am a keen cyclist and skier, a school governor, and a Beaver Scout Leader.
Rosanna Tacconelli BChD Principal Dentist GDC No. 63628
Since taking over in 1994, Paul and I have introduced many changes to the structure and running of the practice and see it as a project in hand. We are always looking for ways to improve the care and service we provide to our patients – and are all ears when it comes to any suggestions they have!
I qualified in Dentistry at Leeds University in 1988 and since then have worked in Castleford and Bradford. I particularly like helping anxious patients to overcome their fear and thrive on improving patients’ appearance and confidence.
When I am not at work our twins, Luke and Eleanor, who are nearly seven years old, keep us on our toes and provide many challenges, as any parent knows, but we also have double the fun! I thoroughly enjoy being a dentist and feel happy that my work-home balance is just right.
Victoria Keys, Practice Manager
After gaining valuable experience managing my family’s educational publishing company, I joined Whitehead and Tacconelli in 2007 and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice, as well as plan for the future to ensure the business continues to develop.
Outside work I run a Rainbow unit, play the piano and clarinet, and enjoy family fun with my husband and nine-year-old daughter.
Terry Brown BDS FGDP Associate Dentist GDC No. 56926
I am an experienced dentist who qualified from Sheffield University in 1982. I have been working in general dental practice in Yorkshire since 1994 and before that in Stoke-on-Trent. I also work one day a week at the University of Leeds Dental Postgraduate Department as a dental tutor.
I enjoy the challenges of dentistry and have taken further training in the treatment of anxious patients and periodontology (gum problems). I am friendly and approachable and I look forward to meeting patients at Whitehead & Tacconelli.
I am married with four children, and enjoy cycling, walking, gardening and spending time with my family.
Martine Freestone BDS Associate Dentist GDC No. 70966
I love creating fantastic smiles and have a passion for the cosmetic side of dentistry. As a mum, I understand the pressures parents have with children’s diet and oral hygiene regimes so I aim to share helpful, practical advice and tips with worried parents.
After qualifying from Liverpool University in 1995, I worked in general practice and then moved to Leeds Dental Institute where I worked in the restorative department focusing on advanced dentistry.
Out of work, I enjoy spending time with my young family.
Nicola Hillhouse BDS Associate Dentist GDC No. 64045
I qualified from Kings College, London in 1988 and worked in general dental practice in Essex, Bristol, Newcastle and Leamington Spa before moving to North Yorkshire in 2003.
Recently I completed a year long advanced restorative course with the cosmetic dentistry expert Paul Tipton in Manchester, which has helped me update my skills and knowledge in the ever-changing world of dentistry. I very much enjoy all aspects of general dentistry and particularly enjoy working with people to help enable them to achieve healthy mouths.
My three teenage children offer me many challenges outside of work and I also play tennis, enjoy the gym, walking my two dogs and am trying hard to learn Spanish.
Gaynor Franks, Dental Hygienist
Patients’ periodontal (gum) health and overall oral hygiene is my area of expertise and as a therapist I carry out simple fillings on adults and children and also perform extractions of children’s deciduous teeth.
I graduated from Leeds Dental Institute in December 2008 and I like to keep up-to-date with all the latest treatment methods and information by attending courses and lectures. In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym and walking.
Michelle McElhinney, Dental Hygienist
I qualified with distinction in 2004 from Newcastle University and subsequently won the General Dental Council prize for professionalism.
I enjoy providing a first class service to patients by facilitating and instilling good oral hygiene practices, allowing for prevention of both long and short term gum problems. I’m a bit of a perfectionist (which drives my husband mad) and nothing is more satisfying than seeing the benefits of the dental hygiene maintenance programme, namely progressive and continuing improvement in both dental and general health.
When not at work my time is occupied by two adventurous and energetic young boys and my eldest son (along with his friends). When I get a rare escape from the hustle and bustle of both home and work life, I relax by taking a stroll along the river Nidd, with a pit-stop in Marigolds café (of course!)
Lynne Darbyshire, Dental Nurse
I qualified as a dental nurse in 1997 and have worked at the practice since 2003. I recently returned to work after giving birth to Ella and enjoy spending time with my family and friends in my spare time
Carolyn Dixon, Dental Nurse
Creating a winning smile is what I love. I enjoy cosmetic dentistry and have worked as a dental nurse and receptionist since I was nineteen and for Paul and Rosanna since they bought the practice 12 years ago.
Anne Hastings Dockray, Dental Nurse
After qualifying as a general nurse in 1976, I worked in NHS hospitals gaining experience in many fields and eventually specialising in A&E. I joined the Whitehead and Tacconelli team in 2004, qualified as a dental nurse in 2006 and am currently studying dental radiography with the aim of becoming the practice radiation protection supervisor.
Outside of work I have a young and growing family and teach sport to children and adults of all ages. Many of the children are patients at the practice!
Lyndsay Duddles, Dental Nurse
I have been a qualified dental nurse for six years and have worked at Whitehead & Tacconelli for over two years. The most rewarding part of my role is the knowledge that the services we provide ensures all patients receive the highest standard of care in a friendly, caring environment.
Outside of work, I am kept busy with my three children and in my free time (when I get any!) I enjoy running with a local group.
Lyndsay is currently on maternity leave.
Joan Gowers, Dental Nurse
Patient care is my first priority. I find my job educating, challenging, and very rewarding and have been a dental nurse since 2004.
Sandra Heaton, Dental Nurse
I bring a wealth of experience and patient-knowledge to Whitehead & Tacconelli because I have worked at the practice for 20 years. Having lived in Knaresborough for 36 years I see many familiar faces and being the proud grandma of three, I understand how to deal with patients of all ages.
Jo Lindsay, Dental Nurse
Having joined Whitehead and Tacconelli in 2007 and gaining an NVQ in Dental Nursing in 2008, I enjoy the variety of my job and working with people. I like to spend time with friends and family in my spare time.
Paula Mullis, Head Receptionist
After taking very early retirement from the Civil Service, I was welcomed to the practice in February 2008 and feel satisfied hearing new or anxious patients say they have enjoyed their dental experience! I enjoy long walks in the Dales and the Cairngorms with my husband and dogs.
Glynis Foxton, Receptionist
I have worked for the practice for seven years and enjoy building up a rapport with patients and their families to put them at ease. I like walking, bike riding, dining out, going to the theatre and cinema, and travel.
